...the world goes down the drain.

Is it just me or are the Theists ganging up. It seems they're tired of predicting Armageddon (or ragnarok or whatever) and it not happening so now they want to push us all over the edge along with them.
When I say I'm a Born Again Atheist people think it's a joke. It's not. God is. Any god, but in particular this Abrahamic One God and all the spin-off sects that claim to believe in It. If you look at the foundations of any of these 'belief sets' they turn out to be a bunch of crap. The philosophy doesn't outweigh the foolishness. People just feel a need to believe in things they have been taught to believe since birth. This is simple, proven scientific fact.
Believing what you are told as a child is a survival trait. For example, the child that believes what he's told when told 'don't stick your hand in the fire' or 'look both ways before crossing the street' has a much higher chance of surviving than the child who needs to test these lessons independently. Now add in the informal training of a culture. All the little things a child learns through observation without ever having to be taught them. Pile on top of that the constant reinforcement through culture and media and all of a sudden you have thousands... no, billions of people who will do things like vote for W. or riot over a cartoon. Is the suicide bomber's belief in a guaranteed afterlife that much worse than the SUV driver's lack of concern for his part in global destruction? Why should they care how many people may die when deep down they are convinced of their own immortality? The rest is just a matter of scale. How many non-vegetarians have never killed their own meat?
Then there are the new agers, born agains and nonconformists (the so called pagans and wiccans and other 'enlightened' types) who just may be the worst of them all. They are the ones who want to pick and choose what parts of the other primitive creeds they believe in. Generally these are based on convenience and adaptability to their own lifestyle. They all, however, retain the belief in their own immortal ego. Raised in a Christian society? Gay? Well, find a church that ignores the fact that one of the few consistent parts of the bible is that homosexuality is bad (I'm not saying it is but the Bible does). Just don't read that part and it's all ok. Overlook those bits and you won't have to question the rest of the nonsense and you can go on not worrying that you might DIE someday. Don't worry, you're going to heaven.
Sure I may be wrong and find myself in hell when I'm dead but at least I won't have to put up with a bunch of Suicide bombers and other assorted morons too intellectually lazy to question the whole concept. Why can't mankind grow out of this shit and get on with things...
